Point Source Solutions LLC Simplifies Complex Corporate Audio with Turtle AV Dante Workflow
Jim ‘Mega’ Schneider, a 35-year veteran of the audio industry, talks about how the Turtle AV 96kHz Dante adapters solved major engineering challenges and delivered flawless audio networking across diverse mixing systems without the need for complex workarounds.
Meet the Pro. Jim ‘Mega’ Schneider.
Jim ‘Mega’ Schneider is the owner of Point Source Solutions LLC and a true veteran of the game. With over 35 years of experience, starting when he was just 16, Jim has seen the industry shift from analog copper snakes to complex Audio-over-IP (AoIP) networks.
Today, Jim’s work demands flexibility. Whether he is mixing on Yamaha, Allen & Heath, or the Behringer Wing ecosystem, Jim needs gear that just works. As Dante became the industry standard, he needed a way to bridge his playback and recording devices without getting bogged down by technical limitations.
The Challenge. Seamless Dante Integration at 96kHz.
Modern audio engineering often requires seamless integration between varying ecosystems. Jim regularly operates across a wide range of mixing consoles, including Yamaha (DM/QL/CL/PM series), Allen & Heath (SQ and Avantis), and the Behringer/Midas families (x32, M32, Wing).
A critical challenge in these high-level environments is maintaining audio fidelity. Many legacy or budget interfaces force engineers to down-sample, but for Schneider, compromising on clock speed is not an option.
“I am often running my networks at 96KHz and having an SRC or dumbing down the clock to 48KHz isn’t an option. Often I need to stay in 96KHz depending on the native clock of the console I am working on.” — Jim ‘Mega’ Schneider
The Solution. Turtle AV Dante Adapters.
To bridge these complex systems, Schneider deployed Turtle AV USB-C 2×2 Dante Adapters, with immediate plans to expand his inventory to include Dual XLR Input and Output adapters.
The decision was driven by the need for a native 96k capability and rock-solid reliability. Schneider notes that the presence of the Audinate Ultimo chipset in Turtle AV devices gives him the confidence to recommend them to other engineers who question reliability.
“I first came across Turtle AV on LinkedIn and I am so glad I did. The Turtle AV USB-C adapters have been rock-solid and have really made my life so much easier. I’ll happily recommend these to everyone working with Dante.”
These interfaces are paired with a robust network backbone, including Cisco SG300/350, Ubiquiti UNIFI-US-8, and Netgear GS110tpv3/AV Series switches. Across this diverse hardware landscape, the Turtle AV units have performed with zero issues.
The Workflow. Corporate and Live Events.
In the corporate world, reliability is everything. Jim’s typical setup uses the Turtle AV adapters as the bridge between the digital and analog worlds:
- Playback: He runs 6–8 USB interfaces to feed audio from “Spotify machines,” Ableton playback, and video systems.
- Recording & Monitoring: He uses Dual XLR Output interfaces to feed media recorders and send separate mixes to backstage monitors.
- The Mix: These inputs join a massive network of Shure Axient wireless mics and podium feeds, often totaling 64+ channels.
- Whether he is managing a corporate keynote or a live entertainment set, everything is easily routed via Dante Controller.
Whether handling a standard 36-64 channel count for a corporate meet or adding an additional 32 channels for live entertainment, the devices are fully assignable and routable via Dante Controller.
Looking Ahead
For Jim, the Turtle AV units have become an essential part of his toolkit. They solve the sample rate headache and offer flawless performance. Jim is already looking forward to the future, specifically adding the rack mount Mineola to his Turtle AV arsenal to further streamline his setup.
“Turtle AV are making all the tools I have needed and been looking for. I am excited to expand my Turtle flotilla as I need additional Dante inputs and outputs.I’ve also got my eye on the Chazy Control, the Dante controller in Hardware. This could be extremely useful in many scenarios.”
